Our story
Bspkl, pronounced (bɪˈspɛkəl) to mark or cover with speckles or a large amount of small dots
Bspkl is a New Zealand-based manufacturer of high-performance catalyst coated membranes. Our capabilities leverage new and innovative manufacturing approaches to deliver a range of sustainable technologies, currently for PEM electrolysis, with plans to expand into AEM, Fuel Cells and other energy related technologies in the near future.
We believe that the world needs breakthrough innovations in manufacturing to support the worlds transition to a sustainable future. Our manufacturing approach is scalable, produces no waste water, no harmful by-products and can be powered by renewable energy.
Being NZ’s first Hydrogen deep technology start up, we are passionate about combining the best of NZ’s research and technology capabilities to unlock new technologies to combat the developing climate crisis. Our ambition is to make a genuine difference in the world, opening pathways for the scientists, startups and our employees that come behind us.

Christina Houlihan
Christina Houlihan is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Bspkl.
She has a passion for supporting the commercialization of technology for real-world benefits and her strengths lie in innovative strategy development, implementation, and delivery based on value creation and risk mitigation. Christina has worked with a range of technologies, from biotechnology to new energy technologies and more.
Jérôme Leveneur
Jérôme Leveneur is a scientist, innovator, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Bspkl.
Jérôme is an Ion Beam Materials Scientist where he specialises in the modification of material surfaces to tackle big energy challenges from heat exchangers to catalyst coated membranes for H2. He has expertise in Material Characterization, Thin Film Deposition, and Nanotechnology with a Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences from the University of Auckland.
